THE COFFEE OF VERACRUZ
Veracruz coffee is one of the most renowned coffees in Mexico for its quality and tradition. It is grown in mountainous regions such as Coatepec, Córdoba, and Huatusco, where the humid climate and volcanic soils give it a special character. It is a high-altitude coffee with an intense aroma, balanced flavor, bright acidity, and medium to full body, with notes of chocolate, nuts, caramel, and red berries.
It has a Designation of Origin, and much of its production comes from family farms that maintain artisanal processes, making it highly valued in Mexico and abroad.
HUATUSCO - VERACRUZ
Huatusco is a place steeped in history. Its name, of Nahuatl origin, means "in the monkey" or "on the monkey hill," evoking the region's deep connection with its natural surroundings. The Huatusco region is the largest coffee producer in the entire state of Veracruz. Due to its privileged geographical location and factors such as soil, climate, and altitude, Huatusqueño coffee exhibits the exact characteristics of a good high-altitude coffee. Huatusco belongs to the so-called "Veracruz Coffee Route."
Huatusco society has been linked to coffee culture for more than a century, one of the main economic drivers, since the 19th century when the Canton of Huatusco existed, which included eight municipalities, including Huatusco.
In 1882, only 33 coffee farms were reported in the canton, and in 1890, the census recorded 2,270 coffee producers, generally respectable, hardworking, and progressive.
